About GiveRate
A gift can sound enormous in dollars and still be a very small share of what the giver has. GiveRate adds the missing denominator, then translates the percentage into everyday scale.
What we publish
- Forbes 400 GiveRates: all 400 of the richest Americans, by share of wealth given.
- Top 20 billionaire philanthropists, company giving vs. pretax profit, historical benchmarks.
- Donor-advised fund, community foundation and private foundation data.
- A 50-state almanac of public spending and a private personal GiveRate calculator.
How we work
- Every figure shows its numerator, denominator, source link and date. See the methods.
- GiveRate describes scale. A higher rate is not a verdict on anyone's virtue, sacrifice or impact.
- Figures are estimates built from published sources, mainly Forbes, company filings and reports, and government data. We do not have access to private financial records.
- Errors are fixed in public, with the old value, new value, date and reason. See corrections.
- No advertising and no paid placement. The calculator runs in your browser; the numbers you type are not sent to us.
